Anyone can submit a report, you do not need to be a site member or have to login in order to post. Although the majority of posts are made by motorists, you do not have to be one to help. After you submit a report it should be visible right away in the prices table, if you don't please see I submitted a report but I cannot see my post below. Please keep in mind that some posts must be manually approved.
The Name field is an optional field. You can enter anything you like to identify yourself. The price field is for the price of gas in cents/litre with one space for a decimal. Stations and Regions can be selected from the pulldown menus provided. If your station or region is not in the list, you can enter them in the fields marked as other. Address is for the location of the station. It could be a civic and street address or you can simply put in the nearest intersection, whatever helps the user find the station.
The main price table of Essencemontreal.com shows the 10 lowest and highest prices in the city and outlying areas, if the price you submitted is somewhere in between you will need to use the "Search for gas prices" form to view more prices. Please keep in mind that some posts must be manually approved and may take time to be visible.
From time to time prices need to be updated. If a price has changed for a particuar station, you can click on the price to go to the update form, there you can change the price. Updating in this way prevents any duplicate entries and marks the original post in red to show users that the price for this staion has been updated. Hint: You can update a post even if the price has not changed! By doing this the datestamp on the post will be more recent and will show others that the price is up to date.
The prices on this site are by no means 100% accurate. Gas prices at the pumps are continually changing, a price on this site may change minutes after it was posted. We also rely on the honesty of others to post as accurately as possible and not to mislead with bogus prices. Although we have ways to eliminate such posts, there is no way to completely prevent them. Please use the prices on this site as a guide only.
